Deutsch Size 16 Terminals are high-quality electrical contacts designed for use with compatible Deutsch environmentally sealed connector systems. Installed onto the end of an electrical wire and inserted into the appropriate connector cavity, these terminals create a secure conductive path between mating plug and receptacle housings.
Suitable for automotive, mining, transport, agricultural and industrial wiring applications, Size 16 contacts are commonly used when building new wiring harnesses, repairing damaged connectors or modifying existing electrical systems. Their removable crimp design allows individual circuits to be installed, serviced or replaced without needing to discard the complete connector housing.
When correctly matched to the connector, wire size and mating contact, Deutsch terminals provide a reliable electrical connection capable of performing in environments exposed to vibration, dust, moisture and regular equipment movement.

- Suitable for automotive, commercial and industrial applications
Male Pins and Female Sockets
Size 16 terminals are available in two mating styles:
- Male pin contact: Features a solid mating pin and is installed into a housing designed to accept pin contacts.
- Female socket contact: Features a socket-style contact designed to receive the corresponding male pin.
Connector housing terminology can be confusing—the external housing may be called a plug or receptacle, but that does not automatically identify the terminal type it accepts. Always inspect the housing specification or part number to confirm whether male pins or female sockets are required.
Secure Crimp Termination
The terminal is mechanically crimped onto a stripped wire using a compatible Size 16 crimping tool. A correct crimp compresses the terminal barrel around the conductor to form a strong electrical and mechanical connection without solder.
After crimping, the terminal is inserted into the rear of the compatible connector housing until its retaining feature locks into place. The connector’s wedge lock or terminal-position-assurance component is then installed to help secure the contacts in their correct positions.
Compatible Deutsch Connector Families
Depending on the exact contact type, Deutsch Size 16 terminals may be used with selected connectors from ranges such as:
- Deutsch DT Series
- Deutsch HD10 Series
- Deutsch HDP20 Series
- Deutsch HD30 Series
- Other compatible connector systems designed for Size 16 contacts
Compatibility depends on the individual housing, terminal construction and wire-size range. Size 16 contacts must not be assumed to fit every Deutsch connector.
Typical Applications
Deutsch Size 16 terminals are ideal for:
- Automotive wiring harnesses
- Trucks and commercial vehicles
- Four-wheel drives and touring vehicles
- Mining and construction machinery
- Agricultural equipment
- Marine electrical systems
- Emergency and service vehicles
- Trailers and caravans
- Engine and equipment wiring
- Lighting circuits
- Sensors, switches and relays
- Replacement connector repairs
- Custom electrical installations
Installation Process
For a dependable connection:
- Confirm whether the connector requires a male pin or female socket.
- Select a terminal that matches the conductor size and insulation requirements.
- Strip the wire to the recommended length without damaging the conductor strands.
- Position the conductor correctly inside the terminal barrel.
- Crimp the terminal using the correct Deutsch-compatible tooling.
- Inspect the crimp for secure conductor retention and correct formation.
- Insert the terminal into the correct housing cavity until it locks.
- Gently pull the wire to confirm the terminal is retained.
- Install the correct wedge lock and any required cavity-sealing plugs.
- Mate the connector and confirm its locking mechanism is fully engaged.
Important Compatibility Information
The Size 16 designation refers to the contact size, not directly to the cable’s cross-sectional area. Size 16 terminals are manufactured for different wire ranges, contact genders, current ratings and production methods, including solid and stamped-and-formed designs.
Confirm the following before purchasing:
- Male pin or female socket contact
- Compatible Deutsch connector series
- Wire gauge or conductor cross-sectional area
- Solid or stamped-and-formed construction
- Contact plating and material
- Current requirements
- Quantity required
Please Note
Terminals, connector housings, wedge locks, cavity plugs, seals and crimping tools may be sold separately. Correct tooling is essential—a poorly formed crimp may cause high resistance, intermittent operation, heat generation or complete circuit failure.
Professional installation is recommended for safety-critical, high-current or harsh-environment electrical systems.
